What Are The Benefits Of Using A Pediatric Compounding Pharmacist?

It’s no secret that most children despise taking medicine. Being sick is never enjoyable, and being forced to swallow ill-tasting medicine does little to ease the overall discomfort. While it’s unlikely that taking medicine will ever evoke sincere pleasure from our pint-sized patients, there are ways to help improve the experience for everyone involved.

One of the best methods involves contemporary pharmacy compounding – the science and art of preparing customized medications. From individualized dosages and strengths to tailor-made flavors, a pediatric compounding pharmacist can help lower the stress and anxiety of medication time for both child and parent alike!

Custom Compounded Flavors

Many younger patients protest taking medication due to its color or texture, or simply because they know it is medicine. However, most children who refuse to take their medicine base it on taste. These children are prime candidates for our compounded medication.

Our compounding specialists can transform many medications into colorful, pleasantly flavored doses. Our pharmacy offers many enticing flavors, which can enhance the color and taste of a medication without altering its effectiveness.

Custom Compounded Medicine Forms

Some children struggle to swallow tablets or capsules, especially if they have to take multiple medications throughout the day. To address this issue, our pharmacists offer medications in enticing, alternate forms, making it easier for children to take. These include:

  • Lollipops
  • Oral liquids
  • Topical gels
  • Gummy treats
  • Effervescent drinks

Certain compounded medications can also be administered using special bottles or pacifiers for infants – which can be prepared in a variety of great-tasting flavors.

Compounded Ingredient And Dosage Strength Variations

Every child is unique; differing greatly in regard to individual medicine needs and dosage strength. Some have varying drug tolerances and allergies, requiring their medicine to be sugar-free, casein-free, gluten-free, or dye-free. As a result, it can prove challenging to locate a commercially available option suitable for your child’s individual needs. Our compounding pharmacists work closely with pediatricians to formulate medications that meet each and every one of these requirements to ensure a healthy and happy experience.
