When a doctor prescribes a medication for a child, parents usually focus on asking the following questions:
- What is the correct dosage for my child?
- How often should the medication be given?
- Should the medication be taken with food or on an empty stomach?
- Are there any side effects I need to be aware of?
Would you think to ask about the non-medicinal ingredients in the medication, especially if your child has allergies or sensitivities to sugar, gluten, wheat or soy? What if your child cannot or does not like to swallow pills or capsules? Would you be interested in finding a customized formula that would make it safer and more pleasant for your child to take their medicine?
Benefits Of Pediatric Compounding For Children’s Medications
Medications available from pharmaceutical manufacturers may only be available in one formulation. At the Compounding Pharmacy of America, we are able to create a customized medication for your child. Compounded pharmaceuticals use the same or similar ingredients and can be customized in formulations which are suited to your child’s health and preference needs.
If, as mentioned above, your child has an allergy or sensitivity, our compounding pharmacists can create customized medications that are free from gluten, sugar, soy and much more.
Our customized medications for kids are available in different forms, such as:
- Suspension liquids
- Topical pain gels
- Suspension liquids
We can also vary the taste of a medication to make it more palatable for children. Prescription medications may not have a pleasant taste, and once the child has taken the first dose, it can be difficult to get them to continue taking the prescription medicine and continue the course of treatment.
With some medications, especially antibiotics, it is important that the entire amount of the drug prescribed be taken or the health concern may not be fully resolved. Repeat treatments may be required, and this will mean spending more money on prescription medications.
Some children are particular about the color of their prescription medication. They would find it much easier to take if it were presented in an attractive color. Our compounding pharmacists can vary the presentation of the prescription in the manner to make taking the medicine easier for a child to take.
